Following the acquisition of Tandy and 380 shops, a significantly larger Support Centre building was required by the 1600 employees.
The transaction involved simultaneously buying in the freehold of the existing Support Centre (held on a short leasehold), and acquiring the freehold of the adjoining building, formerly a BBC Props
Warehouse on Gypsy Corner.
The new building was comprehensively refurbished at a cost of £8m, and significant value was released over Book Value, when the investment created, was sold via a sale and leaseback arrangement.
